June 2012

Bernstein Liebhard LLP is honored to be listed for the fifth consecutive year in the 2012 edition of The Legal 500, a guide which “provides the most comprehensive worldwide coverage currently available on legal services providers, in over 100 countries.” The publication ranked the firm as one of the top seven plaintiffs’ firms that litigate securities class actions and mass torts. According to its editors, “firms recommended in these tables have a proven track record of success in complex litigation.” The editors further noted that “[t]he greatest weight is accorded to firms that are regularly selected to take lead counsel roles in litigation, or which serve on plaintiffs’ steering committees or act as liaison counsel.”

In particular, The Legal 500 emphasized the success of Bernstein Liebhard’s securities practice: “Existing clients of Bernstein Liebhard LLP’s securities practice group would ‘recommend the group for securities class action litigation without hesitation’: it ‘compares with the best in this area of the law’ and provides ‘excellent representation in difficult and complex cases.’” In addition to noting that that the firm represents plaintiffs in various types of complex litigation, with a focus on securities class action, The Legal 500 recognized the firm’s “expertise in shareholder derivative litigation and whistleblower cases.” The publication cited the firm’s role as co-lead counsel in In re Tremont Securities Law, State Law and Insurance Litigation, which settled for $100 million in August 2011. Additionally, The Legal 500 recognized several of the firm’s partners as leaders in their fields: “Practice head Stanley Bernstein is recommended for his ‘excellent and persuasive performance in court, mediation and negotiations’, as is Jeffrey Haber for his ‘promptness in furnishing drafts’ and receptiveness to client concerns.” The publication also recommended partners Rebecca Katz, U. Seth Ottensoser and Felecia Stern.
