Bernstein Liebhard LLP is proud to announce that Michael S. Bigin, formerly an Associate at the Firm, became Senior Counsel to the Firm on January 1, 2010.

Mr. Bigin received his bachelor’s degrees in 1995 from the State University of New York at Oswego (B.A., History; B.S., Business Administration), and received his J.D. in 1999 from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review and Moot Court Honor Society.

Before joining Bernstein Liebhard LLP, Mr. Bigin was an associate at a Manhattan law firm where he represented plaintiffs in securities class actions, including In re Ikon Office Solutions, Inc. Securities Litigation (E.D. Pa.) ($111 million settlement) and In re Computer Associates Securities Litigation (E.D.N.Y.) (settlement of 5.7 million shares, value estimated at $134 million).

While at Bernstein Liebhard LLP, Mr. Bigin has worked on numerous class actions that have resulted in substantial recoveries for investors, including In re Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. Securities Litigation (S.D.N.Y.) ($400 million), In re Royal Dutch/Shell Transport Securities Litigation (U.S. settlement with a minimum cash value of $138.3 million, and a contingent value of more than $180 million as well as an additional $28.34 million secured in connection with a related European settlement of $350 million, which the Firm was substantially responsible for obtaining), and In re Cigna Corp. Securities Litigation (E.D. Pa.) ($93 million). Mr. Bigin is currently working on several securities and consumer fraud actions.

Mr. Bigin is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
